Open an Account

1. How do I open a new Current/Savings Account/-i with AmBank via AmOnline?
Download the AmOnline app > Tap on "Next" and "Get Started” > Tap on “Open a New Account”.
You can only open a new account via the AmOnline App.
2. How do I know if I’m eligible to open an account through AmOnline?
You must:
  • Be between 18 and 90 years old
  • Possess new MyKad (80k chip MyKad / MyKad with a large and small photo of yourself)
  • Not have any existing Debit Card/-i, Credit Card/-i or Loan/Financing with AmBank
  • Have an existing bank account with another bank
3. What should I do if I did not receive my TAC via SMS for mobile number verification?
  • Check if the mobile number you keyed in is correct
  • Ensure your mobile plan is active and network connection is available
If you still did not receive the TAC, tap on “Request New”.
4. Why should I turn on my notifications for AmOnline?

This is to allow you to receive updates on your application instantly.

5. What are the steps involved in opening my first account, fully online with AmBank?
  1. Choose your preferred account.
  2. Scan your MyKad and capture your selfie.
  3. Provide personal and employment details.
  4. Transfer money via FPX from any of your other bank account.
  5. Register for AmOnline.
6. What documents do I need for account opening?

You only need a new MyKad and with following characteristics:

  • Says “80k” and “chip” at the back.
  • Has a large and small photo of yourself at the front.
7. What are the accounts available for me to open in AmOnline?
  1. True Savers
  2. eFlex
  3. AmWafeeq
  4. AmPartner
  5. Basic Savings

All the accounts are protected by PIDM up to RM250,000 for each depositor

8. Can I change my account selection later?
No, once submitted you are not allowed to select a different product.
9. What does a Promo or Referral Code do?
A promo code gives you a reward when you open an account. If you use a friend’s referral code, both of you get rewarded! Just make sure you successfully open your account and register for AmOnline to receive your reward. Terms & conditions apply.
10. Why do I need to scan the front and back of my Mykad and capture a selfie to open an account?
This is part of the electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) process that is required to identify and verify you before opening an account with us. Your personal information will be securely stored by us. To proceed, ensure you perform these two steps in one go.
11. How to scan my MyKad successfully?
  • Ensure there is sufficient lighting.
  • Do not block your MyKad details with your fingers or objects during scanning.
  • Avoid glaring on your MyKad.
  • You are using an old MyKad (not an 80k chip MyKad)
  • Your MyKad is damaged, and details are not visible
12. What if my name is not correctly captured?

You must tap on “Scan Again” to make sure that the name captured is as per the name on your MyKad.

13. How do I make sure my selfie capture is successful?
  • Stay in a well-lit environment.
  • Avoid moving people or objects in your background.
  • Do not wear accessories such as glasses, hats or face masks.
14. Can I use a correspondence address that is not in Malaysia?

No, only Malaysian residential addresses are accepted.

15. Can I change my delivery address for debit card delivery after I have opened an account?

No, please check your correspondence address is correct before submitting your application.

16. Can I select a branch that is not in the same state as my MyKad address?

Yes, you can select a branch that is nearer to your correspondence address for convenience.

17. I am a student or a housewife; can I open an account via AmOnline?

Yes, you can choose ‘Student’ or ‘Housewife’ as your employment category when applying. Once you submit your application, one of our team members will reach out within 1 working day to verify your details.

18. Can I edit my details after submitting my application?

No, please review your details carefully before submitting your application.

19. Will I get a Debit Card upon account opening?

Yes. Your card will be delivered to your correspondence address within 5 to 7 working days.

20. Can I transfer from a 3rd party other bank account via FPX?

No, you’ll need to transfer from your own personal account under your name (as per MyKad). Before making the transfer, make sure there’s enough balance in that account. Once your FPX transfer goes through successfully, your new account will be opened instantly.

21. My application is currently pending verification, what do I do?

Your application will be reviewed within 1 business day. If needed, our colleague will contact you to perform further verification for your application. Once approved, we will send you a push notification.

22. My available account balance is slightly lower than the amount that I transferred in. Why is that?

There is a certain amount that will be reserved when you open account. You may view your total balance in the Account Details screen.

23. Can I open a joint account via AmOnline?
No. You may visit your nearest branch to open a joint account.
24. Can I pause my application and resume later?

Yes, you can pick up where you left off within 10 days. Just make sure to finish your application before then so you don’t have to start from scratch.

25. How can I check my application progress?
Launch the AmOnline app to view your application progress.
26. What are the service availability hours?
The service is available daily from 6:00 AM to 10.59 PM.
27. How soon can I log in to AmOnline after opening account?

You can instantly log in to AmOnline with your credentials after completing your AmOnline registration.

28. How do I start transacting with my new AmBank account?

To start transacting you will need to activate your AmSecure via ATM. You can find out more details here. You can activate your newly received debit card within the same journey.
