Open an Account: For Existing to AmBank Customer / Existing to AmOnline Customer

1. I am an existing AmBank customer, but I do not have AmOnline yet. Can I proceed to open an account?
You need to register for AmOnline first. Refer to “Register for AmOnline” FAQ for details.
2. I already have AmOnline access, how can I open a current or savings account/-i via AmOnline?

Go to AmOnline app > scroll down to 'Do More with AmOnline' section at “Home” dashboard > tap “Apply for More Services” > tap “Save Money” > tap “Open Account”.

Alternatively, you may also tap on “More” at bottom menu > tap on “Apply for More Services” > tap “Save Money” > tap “Open Account”.

Yes, it is protected by PIDM up to RM250,000 for each depositor.
5. Who is eligible to open Current/Savings Account/-i via AmOnline?

Individuals aged 18 or above.

If you are a non-Malaysian resident, you must already have a current or savings account/-i with AmBank/ AmBank Islamic before you can open account via AmOnline.

6. How long does it take for the account to be opened?
The account opening is immediate. After completing your account opening in AmOnline, you can view it in your account summary and start performing online transactions using the newly opened account.
7. Will I get a new Debit Card for this account opening?

If you do not have any AmBank Debit Card, a new Debit Card will be issued and will be delivered in around 5 to 7 working days to your correspondence address.

If you already have an AmBank Debit Card, this newly opened account will be automatically linked to your existing AmBank Debit Card.

8. How can I transfer money into the new account?
  • You may use FPX to transfer money from any of your other bank account(s).
  • You may transfer money from your existing AmBank current or savings account/-i (if you have).
9. Can I perform a fund transfer from a 3rd party account at other bank via FPX?
No, the account you are transferring from must be your own personal account. Refer to “Transfer within AmBank” FAQs for more details about transfer fund from other bank via FPX.
10. My available account balance is slightly lower than the amount that I transferred in. Why is that?
There is a certain amount that will be reserved when you open an account. You may view your total balance on the Account Details screen.
11. Where can I find my account opening receipt?
  • At the account opening confirmation page, or
  • You may tap on 'More' at bottom navigation > Apply for More Services > View Application History.
12. Is the account opening service available in AmOnline web?
No. Please download the AmOnline app to open an account.

15. The currency that I want is not available for account opening. What should I do?

16. What purpose of account of opening is allowed?

You can only open foreign currency current account (FCCA) meant for investment via AmOnline. To open FCCA for trade purposes, please visit your nearest branch.

17. Is the account protected by Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (PIDM)?

Yes, it is protected by PIDM up to RM250,000 for each depositor.

18. Who is eligible to open Foreign Currency Current Account/-i via AmOnline?

All of below criteria must be fulfilled to be able to open account:

  • Individuals aged 18 or above.
  • Malaysian resident and citizen.
  • Must already have a current or savings account/-i with AmBank/ AmBank Islamic in Malaysian Ringgit denomination (MYR account).
19. How long does it take for the account to be opened?

If your account opening does not require additional verification, it will be opened immediately after you submit the application via AmOnline.

If you have submitted the application and it requires further verification, someone from the bank may call you for verification within 3 business days. If verification is successful, the account will be opened.

Once account is opened, you can view it in your account summary and start performing online transactions using the newly opened account.

20. Will I get a Debit Card for foreign currency current account/-i opening?
No.
21. How can I transfer money into the new account?

You can buy foreign currency via AmOnline. Just launch the AmOnline app > Tap on Foreign Currencies.

22. Where can I find my account opening receipt?

After submitting the application, you will be displayed an acknowledgement page displaying the status of your account opening. On this page, you can view or download the receipt.

23. What documents are required?

No documents required to be submitted.

24. Is there a minimum initial deposit?

No.

25. Are there any fees?

No fees for account opening itself but below fees are applicable for Foreign Currency Current Account/-i:

  • RM50 annual fee
  • RM10 for duplicate statement
  • Other remittance charges apply as per current schedule

26. Can I earn interest on Foreign Currency Current Account/-i (FCCA)?

No. FCCA is a non-interest-bearing account.

27. My application failed. What should I do?

Please visit your nearest branch for account opening.

28. I did not receive any call from AmBank on the account opening and my application status is still pending verification. What should I do next?

If it has been more than 3 business days since application submission and you have not received any calls, please call our customer support at 03-2178 8888 for assistance. 

29. How do I close my Foreign Currency Current Account/-i?

You cannot close accounts via AmOnline. Please visit your nearest branch for this.
