Debit Card Settings on AmOnline

 

1. What is Debit Card Usage Settings?

Debit Card Usage Settings is a feature on AmOnline mobile app and web that enables you to activate/deactivate your debit card for overseas and/or online purchase usage.

2. Why should I activate overseas spending for my debit card?

In line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s regulations, all financial institutions and issuers are mandated to default and/or block any debit cardholders from making any online and overseas transactions that are not authenticated via strong authentication method such as dynamic password, unless the cardholder has expressly opted-in to conduct such transactions.

Therefore, if you would like to perform transactions outside of Malaysia using your debit card such as oversea point-of-sale purchases (“POS”), or cash withdrawal at oversea ATM, you would need to activate the overseas spending for your debit card.

Note: To perform overseas online transaction (e.g. Amazon US), please enable both oversea spending AND internet/online purchase under usage settings.

3. Why should I activate internet/online purchases for my debit card?

In line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s regulations, all financial institutions and issuers are mandated to default and/or block any debit cardholders from making any online and overseas transactions that are not authenticated via strong authentication method such as dynamic password, unless the cardholder has expressly opted-in to conduct such transactions.

Therefore, if you would like to perform internet/online transactions in Malaysia, you would need to activate internet/online purchase for your debit card.

4. How do I change the setting for my debit card usage?
  • After you have logged into AmOnline, click/tap on the 3 dots menu next to your AmBank Debit Card.
  • Select "Usage Settings"
  • Simply toggle the button to activate/deactivate, and click/tap "Next"
  • Request for TAC, enter TAC and click/tap "Save"
5. My debit card is not appearing in the “Account Summary” page on AmOnline. Can I still change the settings for debit card usage?

Yes, you may.

  • After you have logged into AmOnline, click/tap on "Settings" and then "Accounts"
  • Click/tap on the 3 dots menu next to your AmBank Debit Card, select "Usage Settings"
  • Simply toggle the button to activate/deactivate, and click/tap "Next"
  • Request for TAC, enter TAC and click/tap "Save"
6. Will the change in usage settings be effective immediately?

It will be effective immediately. Once your debit card is activated for oversea/online usage, it can be used immediately for overseas/online transactions.

7. I would like to perform overseas internet/online purchase. What should I do?

To perform overseas internet/online purchases (e.g. Amazon US, eBay UK), you will need to activate both oversea spending AND internet/online purchase under usage settings.

8. Do I need to activate my debit card each and every time if I want to use it for oversea or internet/online transactions?

No, you only need to activate your debit card once, and the debit card will be perpetually activated, until you choose to deactivate the usage in Settings.

9. I have activated my debit card for oversea/online usage. How do I deactivate?

Please refer to FAQ 4 / 5.

10. What happens if I failed to activate my debit card for oversea/online usage?

In this case, all your oversea or internet/online transactions will be declined.
