Derived from the word ‘fishing’,
this scam involves dangling a ‘bait’

intended to get you ‘hooked’ with the intention to steal
your banking/personal information.

 

 

 

Unsuspecting victims will be contacted via email, social media (including WhatsApp), automated/in-person phone call or text message telling them to update their personal information.

 

 

 

• Victims will be asked to update their personal information to avoid service interruption, account termination etc.
• The scammer will tell the victim to reply the text message, email, speak to a person of ‘authority’, or click a link to update or reveal their information.

 

 

Banks will not ask you to update your personal info via email/SMS links, calls or WhatsApp messages.

 

Always stay alert and be aware of the tricks used by scammers.
